Facial Exfoliation

During winter, our skin can sometimes feel dull and drab. The primary cause of dull skin in the winter is a lack of moisture in the air, you may notice that your skin feels dry—and looks dull. It is especially common to experience dull, dry skin in the wintertime when air tends to be drier, we are working more inside with heaters and air conditioners which all dry our skin out. So, what can we do to help renew our skin and get back our healthy glow?

Exfoliation really helps our skin. With regular exfoliating your skin will absorb more nutrients and goodness from serums, creams, and lotions when applied. Its not just our face that needs exfoliating, our whole body will benefit from exfoliation. Once you start doing this regularly the secret is to get in a habit and make exfoliation a regular occurrence.

Here is some information on exfoliating your face, regular facials work wonders, but this may not always be possible so you will need to exfoliate at home as well.

  • Why do we exfoliate our face?

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin using a, granular substance. Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells to make room for new cells every 30 days or so. Exfoliating regularly helps with new cell production and skin renewal.

  • How many times a week should you exfoliate your face?

The absolute maximum you should be exfoliating is three times a week. It is a good idea to get in the habit of picking one day a week, say a Wednesday and then exfoliate your face every Wednesday. If you are not exfoliating already you will notice a big difference in your skins texture and appearance.

  • How long should I leave scrub on my face?

The process is simple:  Either use a physical facial scrub or a chemical scrub suited for your skin type, gently massage the scrub into damp skin for one minute or if using a chemical exfoliant pat the exfoliant over cleansed skin, then rinse and moisturize your skin. Repeat once or twice a week.

At V For hair and Beauty Merivale we recommend two facial exfoliants and one lip exfoliant.

Your entire body will feel amazing and your skin invigorated after a full body exfoliation. Make this part of your weekly habit and you will never look back.

  • Should you exfoliate your entire body?

It is good to exfoliate your whole body, not just the face. The problem is that sometimes those dead skin cells do not fall off -- they just build up and clog pores or make skin feel rough. ... Exfoliating your entire body can help prevent body acne in many places below your neck, such as the chest, back and arms.

  • Why is it important to use a body scrub?

Using a body scrub regularly will help make your skin look more vibrant and youthful. Benefits of body scrubs through the removal of dead skin cells because of exfoliation with a mild body scrub extend to moisturizing as it allows for the easy absorption of a skin moisturizer into the healthy skin.

  • How often should I do a full body exfoliation?

Ideally, you should exfoliate at most two or three times a week. People with excessively oily skin may need to exfoliate on a daily basis. People with drier skin should use chemical based exfoliants. With these products, you can break down the bonds of skin cells, making it easier for the dead cells to shed naturally
