With one in three people globally having some form of tattoo, I really am in the minority having none. But as skincare specialists we constantly are being asked for products to look after all skin types and particularly lately for people with tattoos and tattoo art on their body. So we now introduce to you Electric Ink.

Electric Ink is a new lifestyle skincare brand for people with tattoos. After noticing the very limited skincare options available for this consumer group, the Electric Ink team decided the time was right to launch their specialist range among everyday skincare products. Electric Ink founder, Simon Forster, had this to say on the brand making its long-awaited arrival to market:

“We are an independent boutique brand, and we’ve worked extensively with our manufacturer on formulations over the last 12 months to create an authentic range tailored to people who love ink. Tattoos are a very personal thing, and everyone wears their ink differently. So, it’s high time people had a credible specialist skincare range that’s as passionate about tattoos and the wider lifestyle as they are.”

Simon adds, “We wanted to bring authentic, credible products to the party made with well-considered, high quality ingredients. Our roots are in tattooing culture, not mass-market skincare, and we fit both inside and outside the beauty industry walls. For those left uninspired by big brands that churn out the same products as each other, Electric Ink is a clear and compelling choice.

With one in every three people sporting a tattoo, it is no wonder Electric Ink is seeing increasing popularity in their product range. At V for Hair and Beauty/ Vj Barbers, we use some of these skincare products for not only tattoo care, but also for healthy skin in general.

Here is the story behind, our salon manager, Georgina's tattoos ~ Many of you know Georgie who is on our front desk, she started getting a tattoo sleeve long before it was a trend… this is her story.

30 years ago, when I was 18 years old a song by Nirvana came out called "Smells like teen spirit" I loved the band, the song and the video and watched it over and over.

In the video there was a room full of cheerleaders dancing around and they all had sleeve tattoos, it's then that I decided I wanted a full sleeve tattoo.

Working as a hairstylist it was still a wee bit conservative in New Zealand about girls with tattoos that showed and what that signified to the public. I had a few tattoos, but they were well hidden from the world (and my parents) like most kids experimenting with being individual and a little rebellious.

I finally decided at 30 to start my sleeve, things were starting to loosen a bit around who has tattoos, why and were starting to be a form of art.

I found a tattooist whose style I liked, a very streety graphic style, and we got started.  I did not do it all at once - it was very gradual, usually sitting for 2-3 hours each time and usually every 6 months, I would get something added. I was not in a rush and had plenty of time to think about the next piece and how it was going to be placed on the arm.

I just recently had a piece done on my hand which almost finishes my sleeve completely. It was then, with a brand-new tattoo with bold colours and fresh ink, that I noticed some of my ones from all those years ago are starting to look a bit faded and dull.

Luckily for me, we have just taken on board an amazing range of products called “Electric Ink Tattoo Care “there are 3 products in the range, and I am using all of them.

There is a body wash which has an exfoliating effect and sloughs off any dry skin and brightens everything, it's especially nice around the elbows where you tend to be naturally drier. I do not just use this on my tattooed arm but also treat the rest of my body to this exfoliating body wash. It really is lovely.

When I get out from the shower, I spray on the Defining Body oil and pat that in and “WOW” all the black in my tattoos gets deeper and darker as the oils penetrates in.

After I am dressed and dry, I give my sleeve a final sweep over with the Vibrancy Serum to “POP” the colours and it has brought all my tattoos back to life making them look like they are all freshly tattooed yesterday.

I usually would just put moisturizer on thinking this was making a difference, but nothing has ever made my tattoos look as good as they do now after using these amazing new products.
